Will of John HERNDON

Will of John HERNDON

I the name of God Amen: I John Herndon of the County of Charlotte, being in perfect health and sound mind and memory, do make this my last will and teastament, VIZ; I leave my soul with God that gave it, my body buried at the discretation of my executors, in a full assurance of its resurection at the last dat; and as it has pleased Almighty God to bestow on me a small share of this world's wealth, I mean to dispose of it in the manner and form following;
Item, I give and bequeath unto my son John Herndon one shilling sterling and no more,
Item, I give and bequeath unto my daughter Priscilla Langford one shilling sterling and no more,
Item, I give and bequeath unto my son James Herndon one shilling sterling and no more,
Item, I give and bequeath unto my son Jacob Herndon two negroes, namely, Caesar and Prince and no more,
Item, I give and bequeath unto my daughter Mary Clayton, the wife of Thomas Clayton, three negroes namely Peter, Braddock, and Breck, and their increase to her and her heirs and assigns forever, Item, I give and bequeath unto my daughter Ann Turman, the wife of Martin Turman, four negroes, namely, Lott, Edmund, Tom and Amey and their increase to her and her heirs and assigns forever. For which I appoint and ordain my son Jacob Herndon and James Watkins whole and sole executors of this my last will and testament, making void all other writings, will and testaments heretofore made except the deed of gift I made my son Joseph Herndon. In witness whereof I have set my hand and fixed my seal this 16th day of November, one thousand seven hunderd and eighty five.

Sign'd, seal'd in the presence of us;
